The Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services’ Public Health Branch issued a health warning Wednesday urging recreational users to avoid contact with the creeks, rivers and ocean waters near Mad River, Clam, Luffenholtz and Old Home beaches. The warning came after water tests at all four beaches showed levels of enterococcus faecalis exceeding state health standards. At Luffenholtz Beach, the state standards for E. coli was also exceeded.
Whole story here.
Humboldt Baykeeper’s Pete Nichols, quoted in the T-S story, also discussed this with Mike Dronkers yesterday on KHUM’s Coastal Currents, which will be available here.

I surfed the out at little river twice last week and for 4 days felt like crap, intense sore throat and nasal congestion, weak/tired/achy. Not sure if that’s related to the bacteria found in the water there, but you never know.
for those who don’t have an organic chemistry degree, that is shit and its by products in the water.
