T-S: Another buoy goes adrift; recovery under way

One of our favorite buoys, 212, has gone adrift!

Adopt-a-Highway volunteer day UPDATE postponed till Jan. 30

Weather permitting, we’ll be cleaning up our Trinidad area stretch of highway Saturday, Jan. 30. Contact Adrien for details – we’ll send out a reminder email next week, too.

Bad news for the Jetty shower

The water line beyond the BLM drinking fountain shut off is broken.  A BLM inspection of the area did not show any water bubbling out, but the water table is high and many pools exist. Bruce at BLM suggests that we turn on the line when the ground is drier in order to see if we can find the leak.

Until then, no Jetty shower.

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society interview Thursday, 11 a.m., 94.1 KSLG

A collision Tuesday with Japanese whalers destroyed a 2 million dollar speedboat operated by Paul Watson and his anti-whaling group, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Friday at 11 a.m., John Matthews will speak with Watson about the incident and his tactics on 94.1 KSLG FM.

Ocean Night with The Cove – tonight

As our monthly Ocean Night at the Arcata Theatre Lounge, Humboldt Surfrider, Ocean Conservancy and Humboldt Baykeeper are showing “The Cove.” (Synopsis below.) Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Movies start at 7 p.m. All ages (parental discretion advised on this one for scenes of animal distress). We ask a $2 donation.
